Those of us who have experienced anxiety and insomnia know just how awful it can be. We yearn for rest, peace, time to recharge, and to claim back that time and energy into our waking hours. It can come and go, it can hit without warning, and it can seem like an impossible cycle to break out of. From 2011 to about halfway through 2015, I suffered badly from insomnia off and on. Toward the end of 2015, I was hardly sleeping at all. I felt like I was losing my mind. It ended up effecting every aspect of my life. I felt it would never end.

I sleep much better these days. For me, breaking out of insomnia took some major changes to my life. I switched careers. I made some lifestyle changes. I dedicated much more time and energy on the things that made me truly happy, including painting. Insomnia is still a struggle for me. It rears its ugly head on occasion. It is a work in progress. Lately I have been doing a lot of self analyzing and research into my own mental health, as well as tapping into some wonderful resources from friends, guides, and group gatherings of those with similar experiences. Since I have been exploring this side of my psyche, I wanted to create a piece that captured the mood and feeling of the struggles of not sleeping. She wants rest. She wants peace. She wants her time back, especially during the small hours of the morning. Yet she feels tethered to the cycle of insomnia.
