The Swan was my attempt to inject a bit more color in my work. I had been working with a lot of black and white pieces at the time. While I love black and white, I wanted to explore more color, in particular all of those blended, stunningly beautiful colors seen in photos of our wonderful galaxy and its various nebulas. I wanted to play with the similarities of vast bodies of water to the vastness of space, and how light reacts both in water and in the cosmos. So here is a graceful swan, floating on what looks like water, but he very well could also be floating through space and time. The swan is also sort of an unofficial mascot of Orlando, where I live. I am close to Lake Eola, famous for its swans. I spend nice afternoons at the lake watching and photographing the beautiful birds, even if they aren't always the nicest. One of them bit me once!
