Most artists have been there at some point. A creation is not going according to plan, and no matter what you do you can't seem to whip things into shape. Multiple approaches are tried, you take a break and come back to it, maybe you do a little outside research, a youtube video, Google, blogs, podcasts to try and glean advise. You just....hate the work. Then, slowly, it begins to take shape and you are up and running again. 

With this piece, "The Hate Phase", I tried to illustrate the frustration of an artist when a project isn't going well, and the problem of trying to chase perfection. Here, the artist has thrown out that frustration onto the portrait with slashing pink strokes of frustration, even though underneath them is a pretty nice portrait. This was also a fun experiment for myself, as learning to "ruin" a work of art I created was very foreign, and it was challenging to let go of my own perfectionist views! I am very pround of this work.
